FINA World Masters Championships

Alison Sakurovs will represent Merrylands at the 2019 FINA World Masters Championships in Gwangju, South Korea from August 5-18. The swimming events at the Championships will be held from 12-18 August at the Nambu University Municipal Aquatics Centre.

Alison will swim in the following 5 events at the championships:

Day 2 - Tuesday, 13th August
100m Freestyle (approximately 2:30pm) - Heat 31, Lane 5

Day 3 - Wednesday, 14th August
200m Freestyle (approximately 2:50pm) - Heat 22, Lane 9
50m Butterfly (approximately 5:40pm) - Heat 25, Lane 3

Day 4 - Thursday, 15th August
50m Freestyle (approximately 11:10am) - Heat 46, Lane 3
100m Butterfly (approximately 4:35pm) - Heat 13, Lane 4

FINA will be broadcasting a live stream of the meet on their YouTube channel.

Metropolitan Results

Merrylands' team of 3 swimmers performed well at the NSW Metropolitan Short Course Championships on the weekend.

Alison Johnston swam her fastest time since 2017 in the 50m Freestyle, finishing in 28.30. Summer Shrestha swam her second fastest time ever in the 100m Breaststroke, just 0.09 outside the PB she swam at the Metro South West Championships 3 weeks ago, while Matthew Vicic swam a new personal best time in the 100m Butterfly, taking 0.06 off the time he swam at the Metro South West Championships.

Metropolitan Championships

Merrylands will be represented by a team of 3 swimmers at the NSW Metropolitan Short Course Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre this weekend.

Our team will compete in 3 events and consists of:

Alison Johnston - 50m Freestyle
Summer Shrestha - 100m Breaststroke
Matthew Vicic - 100m Butterfly

Dive in for championship wins

TALENTED teams from swimming clubs in Auburn and Merrylands are competing at this week’s Metropolitan Short Course Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre.

A trio of swimmers ranging in age from 11 to 33 from the Merrylands Amateur Swimming Club, will compete in one race each while the Auburn Swim Club has 35 competitors aged from 12 to 21, who will compete in a total of 171 events.
The three days of competition kicks off on Friday, July 19, from 4pm and winds up on Sunday, July 21.

Metro South West Championships

Merrylands has 13 swimmers competing at the 2019 Metro South West Area Short Course Championships. The Championships will be held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th June, 2019.

Winter Bowling

Join us for our Winter Social Activity on Saturday, 15th June at Bowlarama Wetherill Park.

The event will be subsidised for members. Non-members are welcome to attend, but will be required to pay full price.

Metro South West Championship Entries

Entries for the 2019 Metro South West Area Short Course Championships close on Tuesday, 18th June, 2019. The Championships will be held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Saturday 29th & Sunday 30th June, 2019.

This is the main meet of the winter season for many of our swimmers and all swimmers who qualify are expected to compete.

Entries for this meet are being taken through the new Swim Central online entry system. There have been numerous teething issues with the new system, so don't leave your entries to the last minute and miss the closing date. Attempt to enter early, and if you have trouble entering, ask for assistance ASAP. Swimming NSW are getting many requests for support, with the turn around time currently over 1 week for a reply, so don't delay.

No late entries will be accepted.

For those swimmers that compete at the Championships, our world famous pizza party will be held on Saturday, 6th July.

Annual Training Breaks

What a massive 12 months our various squads have had! Over the last 12 months, our members have racked up over 500 new personal best times, won over 100 medals, qualified for Area, Metropolitan and State Championships for the first time, and improved massively in technique and fitness! Well done to you all on your hard work!

During July, all groups will have their Annual Training Break. This is an opportunity for swimmers, parents and coaches to recharge and re-focus for the coming summer. We encourage you to stay active during this time, with an occasional swim, to maintain your fitness and feel for the water, while still giving your body and mind some rest and recovery.

The last training session will be Thursday, 27th June. Sessions will resume on Monday, 5th August.

There will be some sessions for swimmers who have qualified for the Metropolitan and State Short Course Championships. Details of these sessions will be provided to the swimmers concerned following the Metro South West Short Course Championships at the end of June.

NSW State Masters Championships
