Merrylands’ team of 38 swimmers and supporters has returned from this weekend’s SportsCo Summer Swim Meet in Dubbo with some great results.

Most swimmers broke at least one PB but the best performance was by Mitchell Emery who won both the 50m and 100m Breaststroke. There were mixed feelings for Rhys, Samantha and Sarah as they qualified for Cumberland one week too late – better luck next year.

Congratulations and thankyou to our members who helped organise the trip. Thankyou to Tricia and Peter for organising the entries and the accommodation, Pauline and Jo for organising the buses, Kerrie for organising the food and a big thankyou to Jim, Brad and Peter for driving the buses. Without the efforts of these people the trip would never have gone ahead.

A full report will be in this week’s Whales Tales newsletter. The results will be posted when available and keep an eye out for the photos.

As revealed in July there will be a number of changes to the 2002 Restricted Age Series.

As mentioned here the number of swimmers excluded from the series has been increased. It was reported that the swimmers excluded were to be the top 10 from Metropolitan, Country and State Championships. However this has now been limited to the 10 finalists from the State Age and Open Series held in January 2002.

Cumberland District will continue to subsidize the entry fee for the Cumberland District Restricted Age Series Heats. This will make the entry fee $2.00 per event. Entries close on Saturday, 9th February, 2002.

The finals of the Restricted Age Series will be held at Auburn Pool on Sunday, 17th March, 2002.
