Ripples St Marys wins 2021 Merrylands SwimFest

While there was rain and storms forecast, the sun was shining at the 2021 SwimFest.

Congratulations to Ripples St Marys on taking out the 2021 SwimFest Pointscore!

Mounties finished in 2nd place and Merrylands came 3rd.

Thank you to everyone who attended the meet and for all the volunteers who gave up time to make our meet happen!

Issue 18, 2020/2021

Merrylands SwimFest

Today is Merrylands SwimFest day. We have 200 swimmers from six clubs attending, so it is a big event for us again.

Please ensure you review the online program and SwimFest information here as this contains important information about the meet including COVID-19 Information and the Meet Procedures. This includes every person entering the swimming centre, including all swimmers, must check-in using the Service NSW QR code at the pool entry. There will be additional QR codes located along the external wall outside the pool entry to assist in reducing queuing in this area.

The COVID-19 drive-through test clinic continues to use part of the swimming centre carpark. Parking will remain limited. Please take care when walking from your car to the centre.

SwimFest warm up commences at 1.30pm with races starting at 2.30pm.

Good luck to our 40 swimmers who are competing at the SwimFest. May the whale be with you all. 🐳

We ask for the help of all parents and members who are not competing in the SwimFest as we have many roles to undertake on the day.

Merrylands SwimFest

Two hundred swimmers will attend this year's Merrylands SwimFest at Merrylands Swimming Centre tomorrow.

This year's meet has been restricted to 6 clubs from the Metro South West Area.

Competitors can download the Meet Program from the Merrylands SwimFest section of our website. Live Results will also be available during the meet.

A full timeline and list of clubs competing is also available. Please note that the timeline should be used as a guide only.

Visiting clubs are reminded to bring their own chairs and shelter as there is limited seating and cover at Merrylands Swimming Centre.

Did you know? 🧐

The Merrylands SwimFest has been held every year since the 1978/1979 season. Originally the meet formed part of the Holroyd Family Festival and was known as the Holroyd Family Festival Swimming Carnival. In 2004 it was renamed The Merrylands SwimFest.

Merrylands SwimFest

We are holding the Merrylands SwimFest next Saturday (20th February, 2021). Warm up commences at 1.30pm with races starting at 2.30pm.

There are some changes this year given COVID-19 restrictions. Only six clubs will be attending and we will have designated areas assigned to each club. Please read the guidelines in place in the online program when it is published next week.

Metro South West Junior Championships

Congratulations to Matthew Vicic who won the 200m Butterfly at the Metro South West Junior Championships last weekend. You can read the full report here.

Cole Classic Ocean Swim

Ian Wilson competed in the Cole Classic (5klm) swim at Manly last Sunday. Ian completed the swim in 1:13:24, finishing 51st out of 308 competitors. Congratulations Ian on your swim. 👏

We also saw five of our junior members swim in the 1klm event. There were 1,142 competitors in this event. Congratulations to Lisa Shrestha (18:44 - 598th), Nevah Shrestha (16:58 – 357th), Niushka Shrestha (14:34 – 113th), Shreya Shrestha (18:07 – 496th) & Summer Shrestha (14:24 – 101st). 👏

Metro South West Junior Championships - Distance

Congratulations to Matthew Vicic who won the 200m Butterfly at the Metro South West Junior Championships Distance Meet held today.

While Matthew turned in 2nd place with 50m to go, his efforts at training working on his finishes certainly paid off!   Matthew came over the top to achieve the gold, winning the event by 0.16 seconds.

Well done Matthew!

 

 

 

Speedo Sprint Results

Merrylands had a team of 18 swimmers compete at the Speedo Sprint Series Heats held at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre today.

Our swimmers had a fantastic meet and every one of our swimmers contributed to the team’s tally of 54 new PBs! 10 of our swimmers achieved personal best times in every event they swum!

Congratulations to Joseph Assi who came 4th in the 10 years 50m Breaststroke and will represent the Metro South West Area at the Speedo Sprint Finals.

Thank you to all our parents for supporting our team and thank you to our coaches for preparing our swimmers.

MSW LC Junior Championships

The distance events of these championships are being held tomorrow following the Speedo Sprint Heats at SOPAC. Matthew Vicic is competing in the 200m Butterfly. Good luck Matthew and may the whale be with you. 🐳

The Big Swim

Last Sunday saw the Big Swim (2.8klm) from Palm Beach to Whale Beach held. The male and female events were both won by a Wilson (brother and sister). Our own Wilson (maybe a distant relative 🤔) competed and swam 46:47 to finish 36th out of 337 competitors. A great effort Ian and yes we are proud of you too 👏.

NSW Open Water Championships

Two swimmers will represent Merrylands at the NSW Open Water Championships at the Sydney International Regatta Centre today.

This is day 2 of the championships after it was postponed in December last year. Matthew Vicic and Summer Shrestha will both compete in the 5km event.

This is the first time Matt and Summer have qualified for this event - congratulations!

SNSW Open Water Championships

The seconds day of this meet is being held today at the Sydney International Regatta Centre (Penrith Lakes), after it was postponed in December. We have two swimmers who have qualified and will represent our club.
Good luck to Summer Shrestha and Matthew Vicic, may the whale be with you both 🐳.

In December, Niushka Shrestha represented the club on the first day of the Championships in the 2.5km JX event.
This was the first time Niushka had competed at this distance and achieved a great time of 47:40.01. Congratulations Niushka, we are all proud of you 👏.

The new block of the learn to swim program commences this morning and concludes on Saturday 20th March, 2021 (no lessons on Saturday 20th February, 2021).
