Brittany Johnson swam a new personal best time at the NSW State Open Short Course Championships at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre this morning.

Swimming in the 50m Butterfly, Brittany took 0.13 seconds off her PB to finish in 30.32. The swim was even more impressive considering that Brittany had taken 0.81 seconds off her time only two weeks ago to qualify for the championships.

Congratulations to Brittany on her swim. Photos from the meet are available via the link below.

  • 2010/11 Presentation Evening

Five Members were presented with Service Excellence Awards at the club's Annual Presentation Evening tonight.

Glad Pye, Tricia Johnston, Peter Johnston, Teresa Johnson and Margaret Edwards were presented with the awards in recognition of their outstanding service to the club for more than 10 years.

In the pool, Hayley Baker and Lachlan Stewart were both presented with the Graded Pointscore Trophies for being the highest placed Junior Girl and Boy. This year was the third in a row that Lachlan has taken home the award and the second year in a row that Hayley has won the competition.

In a close finish, Steven Nguyen won the Senior Handicap for a third year in a row, just ahead of Ian Wilson and Peter Johnston.

Brittany Johnson was presented with the Champion of Champions Award for a 7th time. Brittany won the Senior and Open Womens Championships, breaking 10 club championship records along the way and also represented the club at the Area and Metropolitan Championships. Brittany's representative achievements were also recognised with the unveiling of a photo to be hung on the wall in the club room.

Rhiannon Farrugia was presented with The Jack Smart Encouragement Award after steadily improving over the season, while Hayley Baker was presented with a new award - the Jim Pye Development Award or "Minties" Award - for her improvement throughout the season and qualifying for her first Metro South West Championships. The Minties Award perpetuates the memory of Life Member Jim Pye, who passed away earlier this season.

In the Relay Competition, the title was won by a new team, "The Great Ones x 6" (Haley Sharp, Adam Sharp, Emily Evans, Tanya Cleland, Alison Sakurovs, Miriam Webber) at their first attempt. Despite stiff competition from last year's winners Joint Venture and another new team, the 4 Volts, The Great Ones' consistency and the fact they didn't miss a round proved too hard to beat.

Vicki Baker was presented with the Lions Club Award for her volunteer work throughout the season while Adam Sharp was presented with the Learn to Swim Volunteer of the Year Award for his contribution to the Learn to Swim Program.

Four awards were presented to members of Merrylands Swimming Squad for their efforts at Swimming Training throughout the season. All swimmers were deserved recipients of the Coach's Awards with Anthony Farrugia, Haley Sharp, Mathew Edsall and Tricia Johnston all taking home a club beanie.

The night was very enjoyable and those people that stayed after the presentation had a good time.

Thank you to all the people who helped organise the presentation and who helped throughout the season.

You can find the season results in the Club Races section and the full list of other awards presented on the night in the Presentation section.
