Holroyd Community Survey

Holroyd Council's Living Holroyd program has been created to focus our city on the future, with Council and our community working together. Whether you live, work or play in Holroyd, Council want you to help them to identify priorities, set strategies and develop a long-term vision for Holroyd.

Club members are encouraged to complete the survey to have their say, especially in light of the Swim Centres Review currently underway.

You can complete the questionnaire here until 6pm on Friday, July 23rd.

  • Winter Training

With the closure of both Merrylands and Wentworthville Swimming Centres during the Winter Season, the club has managed to secure lane space for training at Guildford Swimming Centre.

Due to limited lane space available at Guildford Pool, there have had to be changes made to some of the training session times. There may also be a need to make further changes to training times and days as the season progresses. In addition, swimmers who did not add their name to the "Training at Guildford" list at training during June will not be permitted to commence training without contacting the club's coach, Peter Johnston, first. This is so he can determine if there is space available in the swimmer's group.

The training times for each group can be found on the Training Schedule page.

If you previously indicated that you will be training at Guildford, but have now decided not to, please let us know.

Brittany Johnson swam five new personal best times at the NSW Metropolitan Short Course Championships, held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre this weekend.

Brittany swam new PBs in five of her six events at the meet, and narrowly missed a sixth in the 100m Butterfly. Her first event was the 100m Breaststroke where she took just under 2 seconds off her PB to finish in 1:22.20. That swim set her up for the rest of the first day as she broke her times in the 200m Individual Medley (0.66 second PB), 50m Butterfly (0.14 second PB) and 200m Freestyle (0.96 second PB).
On the second day of the championships, Brittany returned with more PBs in mind. She narrowly missed a PB in the 100m Butterfly, swimming her second fastest time ever, just 0.1 seconds outside her best. Brittany then swam her 5th PB of the meet by taking 0.21 off her time in the 100m Freestyle. Brittany's best result of the meet came in the 200m Individual Medley where she finished 13th in 2:32.95.

Timothy Tunks was our second swimmer at the meet. Tim swam in the 100m Breaststroke, finishing in his second fastest time ever. Not a bad result considering he had finished a rugby league game just over an hour before his swim.

Congratulations to both our swimmers for qualifying and on their performances at the meet.

Congratulations to Tim, Hayley and our other swimmers at the meet, on their results.

    NSW Metropolitan Short Course Championships

The 2010 NSW Metropolitan Short Course Championships will be held at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on Saturday 3rd & Sunday 4th July, 2010.

Merrylands will be represented by 2 swimmers at the meet, competing in 7 individual events.

Five swimmers had originally qualified for the meet, however three have elected not to compete for various reasons.
The remaining swimmers however still provide a mixture of youth and experience. Timothy Tunks will compete at his first Metropolitan Short Course Championships, swimming in the 100m Breaststroke while Brittany Johnson will swim six events at the meet, almost matching the seven she swam during the summer championships.

Our team will be competing in the following events over the two day meet:

    Timothy Tunks
    11yrs 100m Breaststroke (Day 1 - Session 2 - 3:13pm)
    Brittany Johnson
    16yrs & Over 100m Breaststroke (Day 1 - Session 1 - 9:58am)
    16yrs & Over 200m Individual Medley (Day 1 - Session 1 - 12:02pm)
    Open 50m Butterfly (Day 1 - Session 2 - 1:22pm)
    16yrs & Over 200m Freestyle (Day 1 - Session 2 - 2:23pm)
    16yrs & Over 100m Butterfly (Day 2 - Session 3 - 10:35am)
    16yrs & Over 100m Freestyle (Day 2 - Session 3 - 12:54pm)

Times should be used as a guide only.

Brittany had also qualified for the 200m Breaststroke for the first time, but decided not to swim the event at these championships.

Congratulations to our swimmers for qualifying and good luck at the meet.
Katie Hope, who has been training with the club for the past month, will also be swimming at the meet, representing Wentworthville.

Swimmers attending meets at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre need to be aware of changes currently underway to the P2 car park.

During the months of May and June 2010 the P2 car park area which is adjacent to the Aquatic Centre will undergo an upgrade to the current boom gate entry and exit areas. Additionally a number of landscaped areas within P2 car park will be removed to allow for additional parking spots for patrons and all parking bays within P2 will be remarked. Minimal impacts to customer parking is expected during the works period which is expected to be completed by the end of June.

Importantly, please also note, that from mid July 2010 the overflow parking area will no longer form part of the SOPAC P2 parking area, and it will become a signposted "pay and display" area. The overflow parking area will become metered parking and a fee of $4.00 per hour will apply. The Carnival Parking Rate of $10 per day will no longer apply to this area.
Patrons choosing to use this area are to place their parking ticket on the dash board of their car or they will be subject to a parking fine. Signage will be updated in that area to advise the general public to minimise any parking confusion.

There will be no change to current parking procedures for swim event patrons parking in P2.

During the upgrade works, access to the P2 car park will be via Olympic Boulevard, the Shane Gould Ave entry will not be open during the upgrade works.

To compete at these championships you must have achieved the required qualifying time at an approved meet as detailed on the Qualifying Time Information page.

All entrants from our club will be required to use the Online Entries system. Online Entries will close at 3pm SHARP on Wednesday 23rd June, 2010. Manual entries will only be accepted if you cannot enter online, but close with the club on Tuesday, 15th June, 2010. All entries after this date must be completed online. Instructions on how to enter online are here.

The Entry List for the meet will be placed on the homepage of the Swimming NSW website (www.nswswimming.com.au) which will be available for download from approximately 5pm Wednesday 23rd June, 2010. All entrants are encouraged to download this document and check the events they have entered and their qualifying times. If any of these are incorrect you will have until 5pm Thursday 24th June, 2010 to send an email to correct any mistakes to meet.entries@nsw.swimming.org.au.
Changes can only be made by sending an email.

If you have any questions or problems please contact a member of the club’s Competition Committee (Tricia Johnston, Teresa Johnson or Peter Johnston) before the Manual Entry closing date so that you don't miss out on entering.

For more information on NSW meets read the Championship Procedures information in the Swim Meets Section.
